What does the damage type «Side» mean

Side damage occurs in T-bone collisions, impacts with parking barriers, or sideswipes. Structurally, the side of a vehicle is critical for occupant protection, so damage here deserves careful inspection.

What may be damaged

doors, rocker panels, body pillars
side airbags (may have deployed and been quietly replaced)
window regulator mechanisms
wiring routed through sills and pillars

What to keep in mind

cabin sealing issues and water ingress
difficulty opening or closing doors properly
hidden weakening of structural body members

Our advice: Pay close attention to the condition of side airbags and look for any signs of welding on the body pillars.

Air Bags
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback and Civic Type R vehicles. In the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment, the seatback pad would interfere and adversely affect air bag performance. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 214, "Side Impact Protection."
